Specifications
Here is a list of specifications of the 3D photos for the technically interested. The specs are divided into 3 areas: photo, flash-program and hosting, because it is typically about these subjects we receive questions.
Photo
- Photos are taken in 18 megapixel raw format. This means that there can be delivered photos in up to 18 megapixel, 350 DPI, unless otherwise agreed beforehand.
- 18 megapixels 350 DPI is sufficient to print with measures of 90cm * 60cm (300 DPI image quality, which is the standard for print) which means photos from Stepfo can be used to most printed matter without further ado.
-
Pictures that are a part of 3D images that primarily are shown on computer screens are jpeg compressed to a small and large picture to rotation and zoom images, respectively.
Flash-program
-
3D Photos are based on flash which can be viewed by 99% of all computers in industrialized countries. This means that users won’t have to install any additional plugins to view 3D photographs from Stepfo.
- A 3D photo usually consists of 36-50 stills depending on how much of the image canvas the product uses. There is a balance between loading time, image quality and how smooth the rotation is. 3D photos with more/less stills can of course be delivered, if needed.
- Integration is done using an iframe in the website where you want to use it. This means that the iframe will point to a location on a Stepfo server, which makes it possible for us to update your 3D photos without having to access your systems.
- A usual 3D photo will have a loading time of 1-2 seconds with an average broadband connection. To keep the loading time at a minimum, only the images that are currently being shown are loaded. That is why there is a small loading delay while a high-resolution image is loaded when you zoom.
- The flash-program is made up of logical objects and it is therefore possible to develop additional functionality on demand.
Hosting
-
Stepfos servers are placed in Amsterdam close to a root server, which means optimal loading times all over the world. The server has a physical backup in Amsterdam, which takes over in case of fire, break in, virus or earthquakes. This means that your 3D photos will always be online. In the unlikely event that both servers get hit by downtime, a third host in Germany is ready to take over the hosting of the images.
- The servers have dedicated resources to 3D photos, and Stepfo continuously measure their performance, so there are always the necessary resources available to the proper execution of 3D photos.
